Last night, I went to the “Art of the Teese” show by Dita Von Teese. Dita Von Teese is the “Queen of Burlesque” and is known as the woman who re-popularized burlesque. Her style is truly a work of art all on it’s own as she is also a costume designer and a ballerina. She is obsessed with anything vintage, her California home is decorated in 1920’s style. She seems as though she walked out of a vintage vogue and is living, breathing old Hollywood glamour. When I got tickets to the show, I knew I was going all out for my attire. I channeled several aspects of her starting with her hair and makeup. I clipped up my longest layers of hair underneath to create a “faux bob” and added old hollywood brushed waves. Then, I did a classic cat eyeliner look complete with her signature beauty mark! I even wore the Dita Von Teese for MAC lipstick because retro glamour is red lips. When it came to the outfit, I mixed burlesque sequins and vintage. Burlesque is a hiding game. How much can you show without showing anything? That is why I choose a mesh and sequin dress from Lover’s Lane. Yes, Lover’s Lane sells clothing and it honestly wasn’t that bad of quality. After the dress, I only added vintage items. I wore vintage Bruno Magli couture shoes, a vintage Whiting and Davis evening bag and I ended the outfit with a vintage fur just like Dita would. In many of her lingerie line photoshoots she incorporates roses, so the last thing I did was put a rose in my hair. The key to her style is classic and poised. All of her clothing is perfectly tailored and elegant. You don’t walk at Milan Fashion Week and get on the best dressed list pretty much everywhere for nothing. Enjoy! Love, Claire.
